Formula TR 2000 Series

Racing series FRENAULT
Date 2006-06-22

Anaheim, California (June 22, 2006) - After a month-long layoff the Formula TR 2000 Series roars back into life this weekend, Saturday 24th - Sunday 25th June, at the Reno-Fernley Raceway in Nevada. Odyssey Motorsport's Carl Skerlong holds a firm grip on the title having raced to victory lane seven straight times this season but the 17-year-old's hot streak was dealt a sudden blow by a rampant Dominic Scheer in Round 8 last month at Miller Motorsports Park.

Scheer's success, racing the #77 Knudsen Racing entry, was welcomed throughout the field as the series celebrated a new face gracing the top step of the podium and it capped a day of dominance for the youngster as he had earlier captured pole position with a new lap record at the Utah track. As an added bonus, Dominic's team-owner, John Knudsen, rounded off a successful weekend for himself with his second trip to the podium, this time finishing runner-up to his triumphant team-mate.

Skerlong might not have triumphed in the last race but he still captured his eighth consecutive podium finish and hauled in an extra two points for setting the fastest lap of the race. In doing so, last year's Formula TR 1600 Champion keeps a healthy 67 point lead over Scheer in second. Dustin Welch, currently sitting fourth in the points following an encouraging performance at Miller Motorsports Park, will be absent from this weekend's races, along with Welch Racing team-mates Derek DeBoer and Adam Davis as the squad sits out a couple of events in the aftermath of team-owner Jerry Welch's successful lung cancer operation.

For those in attendance the rivalries resume on the 2.3-mile road course at Reno-Fernley Raceway. Described as a fast and unforgiving circuit, the 15- turn lap starts with a sprint to the first corner, a tight, narrow bend that leads into a couple of quick esses to challenge the field as they aim to carry their speed through the apexes - the challenge awaits!

Round 9 takes place at Reno-Fernley Raceway on Saturday, 24th June, with Round 10 held the following day, Sunday 25th June - www.reno- fernleyraceway.com

The Formula TR 2000 Series offers drivers the chance to compete in Formula Renault 1.6-litre open-wheel race cars over a 19-race season comprised of 9 double-header weekends and one stand-alone from March-October 2006. Circuits visited include California Speedway, Miller Motorsports Park, Buttonwillow Raceway Park and the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
