Good Morning:

 

We had a fantastic fourth of July party at the Senior Center along with our over 80’s party, we have 106 registered Seniors that are in their 80’s  at the center. Thank you Annie and her staff for cooking such a fantastic meal, short ribs that would melt in your mouth and Thank You to all the volunteers that help to put this event together. Please know that ALL of you are truly appreciated more than you know.

 

On August 7, 2010  AARP will be holding a Defense Driving Class from 10 AM until 4 PM, if you are interest please contact Debbie and she will give you all the information you need including pricing at 775-575-7695. Please make your calendars so you don’t forget.

 

All Seniors that are 60 and over we sell Taxi Coupons at The Fernley Senior Center, please give Debbie 775-575-7695 a call and she  will give you the details on the price,  or if  you want you can stop by and purchase them at 1170 W. Newlands Dr,

 

We are looking for a SHIP volunteer in Fernley. This person will provide assistance to seniors regarding Medicare and Social Security. The person who volunteers will be provided with extensive training. If you are interested in this volunteer opportunity please call Debby at 575-3370 for further information.

 

We will have a new RSVP Coordinator, her name is Maria Durand, her phone number is 775-575-0717, if you need medical transportation to and from the your doctors office call Maria and she will make the arrangements for you with one of their RSVP drivers. Please write this information down so you have it available to you when you need it.

 

We are again in need of donations of Hygiene items such as toilet paper, Kleenex, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, tooth paste, tooth brushes, lotions, shavers, shaving cream, hair brushes, combs, anything you can think of that would help someone take care of their personal needs. We have a lot of people that are struggling and find it difficult to purchase these items that are so necessary on a daily bases and or have no money. We greatly appreciate what anyone can do. Thank You to all the people that have donated these items they are appreciated more than you know.

If any of you are interested in taking a Genealogy class here at the center once a month please let Debby know. We have someone that would come once a month to teach and help with Genealogy. Call Debby at 775-575-3370 and let her know.

 

Due to the economy Scolaris is no longer able to donate to us brown shopping bags for our $ 3.00 bag sales each month. So we are very much looking for donations of used or new brown shopping bags for our Gift and Thrift shop. Please don't throw those bags away when you go shopping, bring them to us. Thank you!!!!!

 

Our quilting class will be on summer break starting the first week of June. Please make a note of it and we will see you in September.

 

Our writing class is every Thursday from 1-3 PM EXCEPT for the last Thursday of each month there is no writing class.. If you're interested please come down to the center and join in the class. A lot of people truly enjoy this class. All Seniors Welcome.

 

Poker is on Wednesdays at 1:00 pm and Saturdays at 12:30 pm. All are welcome to come join the fun.

 

Our crafting group meets on Fridays at 10:00 am now. All seniors welcome.

 

We have Penny Bingo on Thursday at 1:00 PM, please come join , everyone has a lot of fun. All Seniors Welcome.

 

We have pool tournaments each week on Tuesdays at 12:30 pm. this is a change so please make note of it. All seniors are Welcome. Come down and have some fun.
 
To all of you that support the Thrift Store we would like to Thank You because of your continuous support it allows the Senior Center to continue making it a great place for seniors to come and socialize, again we thank you. We are a non-profit organization. The Thrift Store is in need of knick-knacks and clothing, if you happen to have these items laying around your house and would like to rid yourself of them, we would love to have them. The Thrift Store is open from 11-3 daily Mon-Fri. We will help you unload your items. We surely would appreciate this. Thank you so much in advance. To arrange drop off of donations outside these hours please call our manager Debby at 575-3370.
