Congratulations to Scherry VanZandt for being selected as our May Volunteer of the month.
Scherry and her family have lived here since 1968 off and on moving around NV and Utah with the railroad. Before that she lived in the San Jose/ Mt. View area.
Scherry has been a volunteer for about two years at the Fernley Senior Center. Her duties include helping out at Penny Bingo and in the Gift and Thrift. She has been volunteering since the 70’s and also as a child. She helped in Headstart programs and has been a foster parent.
She volunteers about 20 hours a month in various ways.
Prior to moving here Scherry worked in the retail warehousing field.
She became a volunteer when she semi retired. Scherry wanted to reconnect with the community and Fernley-ites. She states for her it is a day of relaxation and fun when she volunteers.
Scherry says people should consider volunteering because it is great fun and you meet interesting and wonderful people. Someone said it’s not always about the things we do, but the people we meet along the way that make a difference!
Scherry you have a kind heart and a beautiful smile. We are lucky you chose us to spend time with each week!
