February Volunteer of the Month

February 1, 2008

Congratulations to Nancy Sanders on being chosen as the February Volunteer of the Month.

Nancy moved to Fernley about 4 ½ years ago. Previously she lived in Moraga Ca. where she was born and raised and also Pleasant Hill Ca. Nancy has been a volunteer here at the center for about 4(four) years and has worked as a volunteer for The Blind School in Berkeley Ca. for about 30 years. She mainly helps out in our Thrift Store, but Nancy also works at the front desk, is a volunteer driver taking people shopping and out for fun activities, and last but not least Nancy writes the Senior News article each week doing a wonderful job I might add. And on top of all of this Nancy helps anyone out whatever the need might be.

Nancy states she became a volunteer because of the enrichment it added to her life and how happy it makes her. Nancy has one daughter Sharee that just turned 30, two brothers Frank and Bob, two foster children Nicole and Angelina and a month old foster Grandson named Canyon James.

Prior to moving to Fernley Nancy took care of her father for 12 years and prior to that she was an office manager for a roofing supply company in Pacheco Ca.

Nancy states, “Volunteering can enrich your life in so many ways. I would encourage anyone who has a few hours a week to get involved in their community in some way. You must have compassion for what you do. I look forward to each day at the Senior Center. I love all of the people there. I love the hugs. I love all of the life stories. For me it does not get any better than that!”
