October 2010 Volunteer of the Month
A special thank you, and congratulations to Kathy Colegrove. Kathy has been chosen as our October 2010 Volunteer of the month!
Kathy has lived in Fernley for 31 years!! They moved here from Yerington after living there for 26 years.
Kathy began volunteering here at the senior center 3 years ago.
Kathy was a 4-H Lamb leader from 1968-1975. She also volunteered at the Continuum, the Bee Hive and also at the senior centers in Fernley and Reno.
Kathy’s main volunteer work is playing the accordion with Bill Ameriman and Bjorn Koch at various senior center and community events. She also helps with clearing the tables and anything else that might need to be done. Last year Kathy donated a painting to the center, it was beautiful. Kathy spends about four hours a week volunteering.
She became a volunteer because of her love for animals and youth. Her favorite thing about volunteering is reminiscing with people when her group play’s an old tune they might fondly recognize.
Kathy and her husband Lee have been married for 57 years. They raised 4 children2 boys and 2 girls. Kathy is a native Nevadan, born in Yerington, but attended schools in Reno.
Prior to retiring Kathy was a nurse. She worked for Lyon Health Center, St. Mary’s, Doctors office and home health for over 16 years.
Kathy say’s it is great to volunteer! It gets you out of the house, keeps you active, and it is a very satisfying, and very rewarding thing to do.
We at the Fernley Senior Center love when Kathy and her group play’s her fun music for us! It makes all of our special events a blast! Thank you Kathy!!!
