February 2009 Volunteer of the Month Congratulations to Elaine Fowler for being selected as our February volunteer of the month. Elaine has lived in Nevada for 30 years, and prior to living in Nevada she lived in Topsfield, Mass. Elaine has been a volunteer for about 5 years and has been volunteering here at the senior center for 2 1/2 years. Her main duties here at the center are leading the pledge of allegiance each day, scrapbooking, crafts, helping other people, providing a mystery gift to raffle each month, and teaching others American

Sign Language. Elaine also has volunteered at church in the kitchen. Elaine was married to Harold C. Fowler for 33 years, they have two children Stephanie and Raji, seven grandchildren ages 21 – 2 years old. Her profession before she retired was as an instructor in ASL at TMCC. Elaine began to volunteer here at the center due to an incident with the late Ann Marie Bamburg…. the story goes like this, Ann Marie was yelling at Elaine one day to get her attention and of course with Elaine being deaf she did not hear her, so once the confusion was cleared up Ann Marie suggested Elaine should start to volunteer and get to know everyone, so Elaine did and has been doing a wonderful job ever since!!! We all thank Elaine for not only the hard work and effort she puts forth each day, but for reminding each of us to have patience and understanding in our fellow human beings no matter what their disability may be.
