A huge congratulations to Diana Etcheverry. She has been chosen as the November volunteer of the month.
Diana has lived here for 3 years and prior to Fernley she lived in Reno. Here in Fernley she has been a volunteer for 21/2 years. Overall she has been volunteering for many years. Her favorite place was at the Animal Ark working as an animal keeper. Sounds like a fun job to me!
Currently she volunteers about 10 hours a week coordinating our poker group. This job entails many things such as opening the center on Saturdays, getting the tables ready to play, and keeping track of the money. She is also a bingo runner when needed, and our on site photographer for special events such as senior picnics and Xmas.
She became a volunteer here at the center first by joining a craft class then discovering there were not just old people here, but a lot of fun and interesting people and things to do. So she began to participate in things as a member and a volunteer. Diana’s favorite thing about volunteering is being able to help others and in turn feeling useful. It also helps to keep your mind off of yourself.
If she were to encourage other to become a volunteer it would be by telling them even if you do not have a lot of time or the health to do a lot, do a little. Even half an hour can make a world of difference. Not just for yourself, but for how much it will help another person.
In her profession she was an accounting bookkeeper/ auditor.
Diana has a good size family. She has Fred her husband, Son Pete and his wife Chris, Grandson P.J., Adopted daughter Farhana Ahmad, and not least in anyway furry face girl- Georgie Girl!
So we thank you Diana for being such a great volunteer. Your commitment each week helps to make our senior center one of the best!!!
