Fernley Senior Center News and Views

To be eligible to attend the senior centers in Lyon County you must be 60 years of age or older. The Fernley Senior Center is located at 1170 W. Newlands Dr 575-3370 the hours are Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.

We will be taking appointments mid January for our tax season, if you have any questions please contact the Senior Center at 575-3370.

It is time to sign your client registration forms for the second year; please stop by the center and sign your form as soon as possible.

If you need assistance with filling out forms, eligibility, resources or have general Medicare/ Medicaid questions call the Senior Center to make an appointment with Carlyn Grocholski our Resource Specialist. She is in Fernley on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Fernley’s Low Vision meetings for The Visually Impaired will be at the Fernley Senior Center at 1170 W. Newlands Drive every 4th Friday at 1:00 PM. Visit with your family and friends and share your stories. Difficulties and solutions-Learn what others are doing visit our meetings and fill this binder with up-to-date information. Mark your calendars for the next meeting every 4th Friday from 1-2:30 PM. The next meeting will be in January 2012.

We now have Nevada Legal Services partnering with us to provide free legal assistance to seniors here at the Fernley Senior Center. This allows us to provide twice as many legal assistance appointments a month. Please call the Senior Center if you would like to schedule an appointment 575-3370.
We are also accepting appointments for Legal Services. In the event appointments are booked up we can schedule you for the next month. So please call 575-3370.

Today February 1st, it is T-Shirt Day so you make sure you wear it you can win a prize.

February 10th is our Thrift Store $3.00 Bag Sale so mark you calendar and we look forward to seeing you.

February 10th is Food Bank day at the Living Faith Church at 115 Main St. it is from 8am until 2pm.

Also February 14th is our Birthday/Valentine’s Party the event starts at 11am.

The Quilting Class has changed to Tuesdays at 1:00 PM. Please make changes to your calendar.

Pinochle will be held on Wednesdays at 10:00am and Fridays at 1:00 pm.. these are new hours please make a note of it and come join in on the fun! There is also a game usually going on every day in the morning.. stop by and join the fun!
Our Crafting Class meets on Wednesdays if each week at 9:30am so please come and start crafting. If you have an questions please call 575-3370 to inquire.

The writing group meets Thursdays at 1-3 PM If you're interested please come down to the center and join in the class. A lot of people truly enjoy this class. Everyone is welcome.

We have Penny Bingo on Thursdays at 1:00 PM, come join in the fun. Come and enjoy the fun.

Poker is on Wednesdays at 1:00 pm, Friday’s at 1:00pm, and Saturdays at 12:30 pm. All are welcome to come join the fun.

To all of you that support the Thrift Store we would like to “Thank You” because of your continuous support it allows the Senior Center to continue making it a great place for Seniors to come to socialize, again we thank you.
