Last Friday, Brian Williams of One Million AOK brought his inspirational message about kindness and the power on the individual to change the world back to Fernley High School. Mr. Williams’ speech marked the kick off of a week of kindness beginning April 20th .
A full complement of activities has been planned by the FHS leadership team.
Monday kicks off with 4 self defense classes for girls hosted by John Mariotti of Relentless Martial Arts. Mariotti said, “These classes are a condensed version of our full scale FAST defense classes. The bullet man will be there and everyone will get a feel for the different levels of self-defense, awareness, verbal, and physical. I am overjoyed to provide this service to some of our most vulnerable citizens.”
On Tuesday get your car washed free at 7-11 from 11AM to 2PM. This event is going “green” this year with bio-degradable soap and minimal water usage. Make a donation if you wish but be kind to your car and get it clean!
Wednesday is Earth Day and FHS will be on minimal power usage! Lights will be turned out in non-critical areas and students are encouraged to wear “green” clothes and /or dress in their favorite environmental theme. Car pooling, bike riding and walking are all encouraged today as well. At 6PM that evening Project Runway hits the commons with a fashion show all made from clothes from thrift stores and the clothing drive. A $50.00 gift card from Junkees in Reno will be awarded to the winner.
Thursday will be the recycled bottle contest. Students have been collecting single use water bottles and will be creating kindness themed sculptures from the bottles. The winner will be announced on Friday morning and will receive a Red IPOD. The sculptures will be on display at Friday’s Relay for life event.
