DAYTON, NEV. -- Northern Nevada author and historian Dennis Cassinelli is scheduled to present his annual lecture and book signing at the Gold Hill Hotel on Tuesday, March 3.
Titled "Uncovering Archaeology on the Comstock," the presentation will include stories about Virginia City and the Comstock Lode. In addition, Cassinelli will discuss the culture, tools and subsistence techniques of early Great Basin inhabitants, as well as the Spirit Cave man, a 10,000-year-old human mummy discovered near Fallon in 1940.
The presentation weaves together several of Cassinelli's historical interests.
"This region has a wealth of history," he said. "A person could spend a lifetime examining it all."
Illustrating the lecture will be display boards from the Cassinelli-Perino Artifact Collection, a permanent exhibit of Indian artifacts housed at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center in Gardnerville.
Cassinelli is the author of "Preserving Traces of the Great Basin Indians" and "Legends of Spirit Cave." He also writes a weekly column for the Comstock Chronicle, a community newspaper serving Virginia City. Previously published columns appear on Cassinelli's Web site each Sunday at http://web.mac.com/denniscassinelli.
