FINALLY! EVERYTHING IN ONE PLACE!

Mr. Mayor, if not you, who?
submitted by Mike Logue

A question for our City Council members and the Mayor of the City of Fernley.
If not you, who? You are elected to set policy, pass ordinances and make decisions affecting the lives of the thousands of residents of the city of Fernley. Yet you are reluctant to pass an ordinance or establish an attendance policy that would in any way inconvenience any of you. As became very clear at last night’s council meeting, you do not want to be put in the position of policing each other.

It has become very apparent to all who have attended the last several city council meetings how the extended absence of one of your members can cause major disruptions to city business let alone the lack of representation to his constituents. One of the major considerations in choosing elected officials is will that person be there to do the job?

You all seem to be overly concerned about who decides what is an excused absence and what is not and don’t want to make such judgment. Four absences in a twelve month period is two entire months, if a councilperson cannot fulfill this commitment for whatever reason, the position should be considered vacant and another person be selected who can. If a council meeting has to be rescheduled due to absences for city business that is one issue but for any other reason, no.

You are elected to make decisions that affect all of our lives and your indecision on this one issue is causing us all to question our own judgment in electing you. Again gentlemen, if not you, who?
