Should I Stay or Should I Go?

Have you heard that a simple 15% increase in physical activity can make vast improvements on your cardiovascular health, not to mention the kind of real energy that bolsters you through your day? Many people agree and the Journal of the American Medical Association says so. Wouldn't it be better to run up the stairs like you did when you were 8 years old, than the trudge that you deal with now? I'm not saying that it will happen over night, but small changes add up. Often they add up to the lifestyle change that makes you a new person.

When to start? Oh no, you're not waiting for another New Year's resolution that has come and gone like last week's pizza. Studies have shown that when a person commits to a weight loss program as a New Year's resolution, they are much less likely to make a commitment that translates into lasting success. Knowing that, let's not do what we've done in the past that we know doesn't work! Now is the time, or even the day that you know to your core that you want something better for yourself and a better example for your children. So, think about small changes that you can make and start by creating a list. Drink black coffee instead of with cream and sugar, try flavored waters instead of soda, park in the last parking spot and burn a few extra calories. Yes, these are small changes. . . and no, they aren't going to melt off 50 lbs. in one week, but when you get the tiniest taste of success, you will always want more; and we can build on those first few steps.

When you start to understand that you deserve not just good health, but outstanding health, you'll be more willing to step out of your comfort zone. Keep pushing yourself to try new activities; if you have always sent the dog to walk with the kids, then you start doing it. If you drive by the tennis court each day and don't even know how to play, ask a friend to goof off with you for a couple of hours and hit the ball back and forth; you don't need rules. Or, if you really mean business and you're gett'n the gloves on for the big fight, come and see us. Let us guide you; partner with you; kick you in the butt when you don't want to push on.
