North Lyon County Fire Protection District Installs Solar Array at Fire Station
Fernley Fire Department Going Green
July 27, 2010
Black Rock Solar installed solar arrays behind the North Lyon County Fire Protection Station 1 on Main Street in Fernley Nevada.
Black Rock Solar crews installed 195 modulars that operate on 190 kilowatts apiece to run off five inverters that convert DC power to AC power, which is then fed to the fire station.
Each solar photovoltaic panel is tilted at a 15-degree angle south, which is optimal for the sun's position year around.
The district will save $6,500 per year over a 20-year period
NLCFPD is also looking to incorporate a solar array at Station 2 on Farm District Road in Fernley.
