GOVERNOR NAMES FORMER ASSEMBLYWOMAN TO COMMISSION ON NUCLEAR PROJECTS
February 6, 2006
CARSON CITY Gov. Kenny Guinn announced today that Reno resident and former Nevada Assemblywoman Joan Lambert has been appointed to the Nevada Commission on Nuclear Projects, the state agency that oversees the federal government’s plans to build a high-level nuclear waste repository at Yucca Mountain. Lambert will complete the term of former Nevada Attorney General Brian McKay, who recently resigned from the Commission.
“Joan Lambert’s wealth of experience, including her time on the Committee on High-Level Radioactive Waste during her tenure as an assemblywoman, prepares her to make a substantial contribution to the important work of the Commission on Nuclear Projects,” Gov. Guinn said.
Lambert said she is honored by Gov. Guinn’s appointment, adding, “Ever since I served on the Legislature’s Committee on High-Level Radioactive Waste in the 1990s, I have followed the Yucca Mountain repository project and nuclear waste issues with interest. I am very flattered to be considered for the commission and am pleased to serve.”
“Former Assemblywoman Lambert will be a fine addition to this board,” said Bob Loux, executive director of the Agency for Nuclear Projects. “We look forward to working with her as we continue our efforts to make sure Nevada is not used as a federal dumping ground.”
Lambert currently serves as government affairs director for Carrara Nevada. She served seven terms in the state Assembly from 1984-1998, representing Assembly District 29 in Reno. Since 1999, Lambert has been a member of the Nevada Tax Commission, which oversees the administration and operation of the state’s Department of Taxation.
