GOVERNOR ISSUES PROCLAMATION IN HONOR OF KEEP MEMORY ALIVE
February 13, 2006
CARSON CITY Gov. Kenny Guinn today issued a proclamation declaring February 11, 2006, a day in honor of Keep Memory Alive, the fundraising foundation for the Lou Ruvo Alzheimer’s Institute. The annual Keep Memory Alive gala will take place in Las Vegas on February 11 at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino.
“Alzheimer’s disease is a devastating brain disorder that not only affects those stricken with this dreadful disease, but also the caregivers, family and friends of those who fall prey to its life-changing consequences,” Gov. Guinn said. “I want to thank all those associated with the Keep Memory Alive gala who are helping to raise money that will be used to open the Lou Ruvo Alzheimer’s Institute in early 2008. Larry and Camille Ruvo, who co-founded this terrific event with the help of supporters and friends, certainly deserve special recognition for their efforts.”
Larry Ruvo said, “This project has been a passion for me and my wife. The idea to create an institute in Las Vegas dedicated to research and information that will help Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Lou Gehrig’s and Huntington’s disease patients and their families stemmed from our personal experience watching my father cope with the onset of Alzheimer’s and recognizing how it affected our daily lives.”
More than four million Americans currently are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. There is no known cure for the disease. For more information about the Lou Ruvo Alzheimer’s Institute, go to www.keepmemoryalive.org, or call (702) 263-9797.
