THIRD ANNUAL SUMMIT ON JUVENILE JUSTICE
September 25, 2006
CARSON CITYGov. Kenny Guinn today announced that the Third Annual Governor’s Summit on Juvenile Justice, A Closer Look: New Perspectives on Working with Nevada’s Youth and Families, will be held September 26-27, 2006, at Circus Circus in Reno, Nevada.
“Working with Nevada’s troubled youth is not easy; their needs are complex and working successfully with them requires a different perspective,” Gov. Guinn said. “The Juvenile Justice Summits are an important step in building partnerships between professionals and in learning how to make better use of community resources to re-integrate youth into their communities from correctional care.”
Fernando Serrano, Administrator for the Division of Child and Family Services, stated, “These are challenging times when we consider how best to serve our youth who may increasingly feel disconnected and fragmented from society. Sometimes working successfully with youth means looking at them from a new perspective, which may include improving transition outcomes for court involved youth; exploring identity, esteem, healing and efficacy; and, successfully partnering with a wide array of state and local agencies and organizations to address issues related to incarceration.”
The Summit is sponsored by the Nevada Division of Child and Family Services in collaboration with the Juvenile Justice Commission.
