Governor Gibbons Announces Launch of Foreclosure Help Website

October 30, 2007 Carson City— Governor Jim Gibbons today announced the launch of foreclosurehelp.nv.gov, a website to assist Nevada homeowners who may be facing foreclosure. The website is a comprehensive resource designed to help borrowers make informed decisions about mortgage payments.

“This website will serve as a one-stop location online where consumers can obtain information regarding foreclosure, including whom to call for specific help,” said Governor Gibbons. “By visiting foreclosurehelp.nv.gov, borrowers will be able to identify resources best suited to meet their individual needs, such as preventative help, information on the foreclosure process, contact information for housing counselors, and tips on avoiding foreclosure scams.” The website is an important component of the Governor’s multi-faceted efforts to provide homeowners with resources that may help prevent foreclosure.

Building on the Economic Summit held on October 4, 2007 in Las Vegas, additional industry-specific summits with realtors, bankers, brokers and builders, among others, will be held over the coming weeks. The summits will focus on how the public and private sectors can collaboratively partner to provide solutions for borrowers. “Those who are at risk of foreclosure must act now,” said Governor Gibbons. “The sooner that borrowers contact their lenders or a housing counseling agency, the better their options are for retaining ownership of their homes.” Additionally, a series of “housing fairs” will be held throughout the state to connect homeowners facing mortgage troubles with lenders, non-profit agencies, and other state agencies who may be able to provide timely assistance.
