GOV. GUINN WILL MEET WITH AIR FORCE REPRESENTATIVES TO DISCUSS HILL AIR FORCE BASE EXPANSION
CARSON CITY Gov. Kenny Guinn will meet with representatives of the U.S. Air Force on Monday, July 17, in his Capitol Building office, to determine federal government plans for possible expansion of Hill Air Force Base into eastern Nevada. Gov. Guinn and other officials will be available to the media at approximately 11:00 AM following the meeting with William C. “Bill” Anderson, Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations, Environment, and Logistics; and Major General Ronald J. Bath, Air Force Director of Strategic Planning, Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans and Programs.
Hill Air Force Base, located in northern Utah, is home to many operational and support missions, with the Ogden Air Logistics Center (OO-ALC) serving as the host organization. The center provides worldwide engineering and logistics management for the F-16 Fighting Falcon, A-10 Thunderbolt II, Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile. The base performs depot maintenance of the F-16, A-10 and C-130 Hercules aircraft.
Gov. Guinn has addressed with Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld the possible problems expansion of the air base into eastern Nevada would pose for White Pine County. In response, Secretary Rumsfeld asked Air Force leadership to meet with Gov. Guinn and other state and local officials to discuss the issues surrounding the expansion. Expected to join Gov. Guinn, among others, will be Nevada National Guard Adjutant General Cindy Kirkland, State Senator Dean Rhoads, Assemblyman Pete Goicoechea, White Pine County Commissioner Ken Heinbaugh, and Elko County Commission Chairman John Ellison.
