TRANSITION TEAM DOCUMENTS MADE AVAILABLE

02/09/07

Carson City—Governor Jim Gibbons is making public all documents provided to him by his transition team. As Governor-elect, Gibbons created a transition team, made up of approximately 200 people from all across Nevada and from various political, professional and ethnic backgrounds. Its mission was to provide him with insight into many of the issues through which state government touches the lives of Nevadans. The team was divided into ten working groups focusing on budget, education, transportation, water, energy, public safety, health care, business and industry, and tourism and gaming, plus an at-large group.

The chairs of the various working groups selected their own methods for conducting meetings and reporting their findings. Some chose to make informal, verbal reports to the Governor, so not every group submitted documents. The documents the Governor has received are now available for viewing at at the Governor's web site under Transition Teams. As more documents are submitted, they will be added to this site.

“I want to thank the people who devoted so many hours to doing such good work for our state,” said Governor Gibbons. “They offered their expertise in a wide variety of subjects, and they offered a host of excellent ideas—common sense ideas about the way government should be run, innovative ideas about how we can do a better job and save the taxpayers money. My staff and I have reviewed and continue to review their recommendations.”

The ideas presented in these documents do not necessarily represent the philosophy of Governor Gibbons or the policy of his administration. They are suggestions and recommendations from which the Governor may select those which he believes have the most merit and best meet the needs of the state.

The documents are presented in their entirety, except where references to individuals become personnel matters, which are confidential by law. These sections have been obviously obscured.
