August 24, 2006
The 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, will be in Nevada in late September, to campaign on behalf of his son, Jack Carter, the Democratic candidate for United States Senate.
“This is a pivotal election that will determine the direction of our country on issues that impact our well being at home and influence our actions around the world,” says President Carter, who will be in Nevada September 27th-29th. “Voters are looking for a new generation of political leaders who will work together to solve problems. Jack is that kind of leader.”
The President and Jack Carter will spend most of Wednesday, September 27th, in rural Nevada. In Elko, they will discuss health care and social security issues at the Elko Senior Center and also speak to the Elko Rotary Club at lunchtime. In Fallon, they will focus on national security issues.
On Thursday, September 28th, Jack Carter and his father will spend the day in Reno. A rally is planned for that afternoon at the Manzanita Bowl at the University of Nevada. That evening, they will attend the Washoe County Democratic Party’s Jefferson-Jackson Day dinner at Circus-Circus in Reno.
Friday, September 29th, will be spent in Southern Nevada. A rally is planned for that afternoon in Henderson. That evening, they will attend the Clark County Democratic Party’s Jefferson-Jackson Day dinner at The Rio Suites Hotel in Las Vegas.
At age 81, President Carter continues to lead a very active life, monitoring elections and combating disease around the world under the umbrella of The Carter Center in Atlanta. His son, Jack Carter, says, “I am delighted that Dad is able to carve some time out of his busy schedule to come to Nevada to campaign with me. He and I both realize the urgent need to change the direction in which our great nation is headed under the current Administration and its supporters.”
