Political Power
October 20, 2006
How do you feel about the Taliban being in charge of this country? A political party which tells you what you can or can't do 24 hours a day? Sound good? Then stick around, because it's happening.
Oh, they have special code words like "safety" and "protection" they use to pass these regulations, but everyone should know that it's only goal is Power, power for the political party (doesn't seem to make any difference anymore which one it is) which is currently in the majority of Congress.
Today it's the republicans, who have dashed all hopes of ever getting my vote again, at least not until there is a great big shakeout of the psychotic lot we currently have in office, but tomorrow it will be the Democrats. Come November 7 as a matter of fact. Sheesh, these tomorrow's are coming faster and faster.
Imagine, in the last 6 years, ever since Bush was elected, the republican party has turned into a party which is worse than the democrats. And I used to think Democrats were my worst nightmare.
President Bush led the charge, which he gave hints to during his campaign but no one, including me, were listening to, towards big government . He led congress to believe that they were invincible, and they could regulate and spend us into oblivion without consequence. And they did.
Unfortunately, the lunacy of the democratic party was such that they chose Kerry as their poster child , and despite the Democratic hatred of Bush and the obvious dislike by Republicans, Bush was re-elected.
And so what we are stuck with is a bunch of thieves and corrupt officials who are leading our country towards a third party. I just wish I had the wherewithal to start one.
Oh, the Libertarians are good, they believe in small government, and just about everything else I would want in a political party, except for Illegal immigration. For this reason alone it's enough to make me want to scream. They have been a long proponent of open borders, a fact which eluded me during the past election, when I voted Libertarian.
Nevada has a long history of being an independent state which doesn't go with the flow just because it's in vogue. Maybe there is a little hope for it. But with Senator Reid being elected again and again I doubt it. He has gone from being against illegal immigration to being for guest worker programs which is another word for amnesty, despite their protestations.
So he's just a paper tiger who has also apparently been corrupted by the heady smell of power too. If illegals can be had for less (currently) to do the hotel cleaning and the gardening etc, and there is money in it for the casino's, then Senator Reid won't be far behind.
I see where today he's even being accused of a shady real estate deal where he made $700,000. Could be trouble for a republican, but in today's climate it's just an itsy bitsy problem for the great Senator to handle.
I began this diatribe (I've been told I ramble, but I know what I mean) by theorizing that some of us like regulation. I mean, ever since we have had the special interests inside the ears of congress buzzing around and spreading their gift's; gratuities and outright bribes we've been subjected to more regulation than a new business trying to get started in Fernley, and THAT'S darn near impossible.
The people who want to control us are ever present, sometimes they start small, like smoking in commercial airplanes, remember when they assured us that it wouldn't go any further? Ha! How about lap-belts in cars, it USED to be voluntary. Now unless you're trussed up like a holiday pig on the way to market you get ticketed.
Oh hell, the ones responsible for the idea keep saying that it's for our "protection", a fact that's lost on me when a cop lies in wait outside a drive through line at Taco Bell so when you loosen your belt to get to your wallet, pull out onto the street to keep the line moving, and the cop pulls you over before you can say "oh God this smells like crap" at the bag. And smiling, gives you a ticket for not wearing yours.
Or when the conservationist movement sues a man for accidentally running over some critter with his tractor while plowing his field, winning a lawsuit which makes it impossible for the farmer to farm. And enforced by the EPA.
Or when a state such as CA. has a law which enables people with terminal illness to grow their own marijuana to alleviate the pain and illegality of it's use, but the Feds use an end run by the Department of Commerce to enforce a law which has absolutely nothing to do with marijuana, but inter-state sales of it. Which IS illegal. But it was a tactic of John Ashcroft, then Attorney General, to enforce his type of morality on the rest of us.
Or how about this? A president who is known for his famous cop-out line "We can't deport them all". His answer? Let them in, give 'em all guest worker programs and a path to citizenship.
Well, I've got a question for you Mr. President. We've been fighting the drug wars for about 30 years now, and it's only gotten worse.
So why don't you give up on that too? Save us billions each year, legalize and tax the drugs, and sell them in liquor stores or pharmacies. They would be safer, there wouldn't be local drug wars, less drive-bys; many more people saved by doing that than your way. Plus the tax revenue would pay for the rehab instead of further burdening the taxpayer.
Why don't you do that Mr. President? I think it's a twofold answer. It's politically a loser, and the other answer is because you think it would be wrong.
Well, in Washington a little known secret apparently has escaped you Mr. President. I and millions of other citizens of this country think that letting our cities be over-run by a bunch of foreigners who won't bother to learn the language or try to assimilate is WRONG TOO!
The only difference is, we WANT to save what's left of our country and are stuck with voting for the likes of you. While you CAN do something but do nothing but help big business and attempt to get more give-aways of our tax money to the invaders.
