Government Schools

May 27, 2006

The public school system (aka government schools) has been failing our children for years. The Teacher's Union, known as the NEA, and the state unions, have checked their ideals at the door and gone on to be nothing more than bargaining units for higher wages for teachers.

No longer is the idea of being the best teacher one can be the goal for teachers, now it's raises and to hell with the kids.      These unions do NOTHING but say they are under funded, and want more. In some cases, Atlanta being one at $11,215 per student, the cost per pupil is outrageous. Take 11,215 times the average class size of 30, and you get $336,450 per class. And their test scores nationwide are dropping. I was unable to find Nevada's cost per student.       But the unions say this is because they are under funded and want more money.              And yet there are anecdotal stories such as this, posted by a female from L.A. on Anderson Cooper:   "My sister had a riot at her school last week. Today they weren't worried about a riot because of the rallies. However, tomorrow they are very worried. I think this was a reason to skip out on a day of school."

She was talking about the student's joining the illegal alien march known as "A day without a Mexican" where they marched and didn't patronize local establishments.

Not a very good opinion of local schools is it. But Senator Reid wants to legalize the illegals, so we can have the same thing. Oh Boy.

So here they are, in 2006, not caring for the students, just caring about more pay for the teachers. Not worried about students test scores (despite Bush's  "no child left behind").

Will it happen here? Will the schools become so concerned with their pay scale that the education of their students comes second behind their take home pay?

I hope not. However, the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) rates Nevada in their 2004 standings of schools (Elementary) as 45th out of 50. Middle school 44 out of 50.

Doesn't look good, does it?
