Fair Share?
November 7, 2007
I'm really getting tired of politicians and others who keep hounding people for more taxes. I just heard that California has increased it's tax on cigarettes by $2.00 a PACK! And this to pay for insurance for someone else (supposedly).
And the state, local and federal taxes which keep going up. Relentlessly up. Despite the various tax revolts that have been successful, in attempts to bring taxes down, those rascaly politicians keep finding different victims or groups which doesn't affect the whole so that only those who have to pay will be the tax-victim du jour.
The liberals always demanding those with a higher income pay their "fair share". And who determines what's fair? Why those who want to spend the money gained from the taxes of course. Those with a "cause" or those with a heart of gold as long as it's not "THEIR" money being spent. Or those in power who want to buy more votes so they can stay in power, or just those with an ax to grind.
But I never hear anyone except the taxpayers demanding that government spend less, live within it's means, tighten their belts, or just quit taxing us to death. They always want more.
No, those in power never seem to get the point. There's always "favors" to pay back, or votes to buy, or pork for their home district which never seems to do anyone any good except a select few. But they can tout all the crap they got for their home district which those taxpayers seems to work, because they usually get voted back in.
I know why the candy tax isn't implemented, or the cholesterol tax, too many people who vote would flame out. But the politicians are expert Highwaymen. They know how to pick off the taxpayer by choosing one sector at a time, smokers here, licensing fees there, and on and on.
I wonder if they go to a special class after being elected to instruct them on how to get their taxes passed or if it's just inherent in all politicians?
I have a picture on my computer desk of Jimmy Stewart in Mr. Smith goes to Washington. It's from an old L.A. Times article, and I put it up when Clinton was President.
The caption reads "Where is Mr. Smith now that we need him?"
Well folks, we don't just need one Mr. Smith these days, we need a whole boatload of 'em.
And the only one who makes sense and is running for president is Senator Ron Paul.
I wish you luck Ron, hope you can do it.
