Elections
August 1, 2006
When people are elected to office there's a not so subtle transformation which takes place. They start (usually) with high ideals. The liberals want to save the world and would tax everyone to death to do it. They see the rich corporations as an evil necessity, an entity to be taxed to subsidize those who can't do for themselves or are, as in most cases, too lazy or unimaginative; and success as the goal of everyone, without ANY level of differentiation of the classes. In other words, socialism.
The conservatives think differently, they would reward achievement and provide opportunities for business as well as those who left themselves behind because of poor choices. They would think that they can do this through tax-cuts, less regulation, and providing incentives for new business etc.
But when either is elected to office, a strange thing happens. They see this big bag of tax money which they can DO things with. All their pet projects, or anyone else's for that matter, can be taken care of by merely reaching into what they see as a bottomless pit of revenue (taxes) and spending willy-nilly as if there is no tomorrow.
The Republicans, who ran on a fiscally sound budget, and traditionally are frugal, somehow got caught up in this and have been raiding the coffers as if there was no tomorrow. If anyone else were to try something similar, they would be up on charges, just look at Ken Lay.
However, when re-election looms, all of a sudden they begin swearing that "if you'd just trust me, all will be better, we'll put budget limitations in place, we'll take care of the illegal immigration problem, we'll be just like you thought we'd be when you voted for us the first time".
They kinda remind me of a bunch of felons up for parole. All of a sudden they've found God and will preach the old standby party line and hope the stupid voters will believe them, or at the very least vote for them because crossing party lines and voting for the other guy is too distasteful.
They remind me of kids who've been caught stealing, oh, the promises of repentance and reform, oh, the pleas not to punish them, oh, my achin' butt.
This is the time for a third party, a party which will abolish the ridiculous politically correctness, the borrowing against an economy which has no guarantees at all, one which will stop the give-aways, stop the thinking that the federal government must act to bail out any state which has a catastrophe, and reform foreign aid to the extent that we only will aid countries which are our friends, not two bit nations which has no track record as a friend yet begs for our money.
And yes, one which gets us out of the UN, accepts the fact that not all Muslims are terrorists but all contemporary terrorists are Muslim, and deal with the Muslim countries who are living in the dark ages with the only thing which they understand, massive, undeniable force.
A third party which puts success back into schools, and stops rewarding failure, and shows common sense for a change.
Let's boot the ones in office, and start fresh.
Any ideas?
