Natures Beauty Spoiled by Inconsiderate Residents
Wildland cleanups in the works while Proactive Spotters are armed with cameras, video, binoculars and watchful eyes ready to report illegal dumping

May 23, 2008

Nevada's vast wildland is home to Wild Mustangs, Cattle, Coyotes, Rabbits, Ground Squirrels, Cougars, birds and many other wildlife.

A once beautiful area is now being treated as a garbage dump!

Besides being an unsightly mess, when glass is broken on the side of the highways and elsewhere, animals get cut. The same can be said of metal that can have a sharp edges.

There are three favorite areas around Fernley, with easy access from dirt roads, that seem to draw certain inconsiderate and obviously brain dead folks who think dumping their garbage in our wildland area is permissable. They also fail to realize that taking their debris to the dump would be a shorter drive and considerably cheaper then Nevada's fine for littering. It makes me wonder if the IQ of these individuals hovers in the two digit range.

Many illegal dumpers are about to feel the backlash from fed up Fernley Residents. Within the garbage and debris one can find discarded mail and other identifiers that can be directly traced back to the owners and reported to the authorities. Other residents are acting as spotters making note of license plates of vehicles disposing of debris.

Nevada levies a $2000.00 fine for littering anywhere in Nevada. For the individuals who's litter can be identified, they will be paying a whole lot more than what it would have originally cost to go to the dump. Some have already been identified as living in apartment complexes off of 96A.

If you're fed up or have information on illegal dumping or other vandalism you can Call Secret Witness at 775-322-4900 and Remain anonymous – you will receive a reward if they are convicted.

You can also contact the Lyon County Sheriff’s Dept. at 575-3350.
